MOTORHEAD picked up a Grammy in the Best Metal Performance category for their cover of METALLICA`s "Whiplash", shutting out CRADLE OF FILTH ("Nymphetamine"), HATEBREED ("Live For This"), KILLSWITCH ENGAGE ("The End of Heartache") and SLIPKNOT ("Vermilion").

The long, raucous career of British rockers Motorhead just about defines the genre of "metal," and this year the noisily venerable outfit is a nominee for BEST METAL PERFORMANCE with their appropriately titled track, "Whiplash." Hard rock nominees Slipknot also have a shot at metal honors with the sharp-edged track "Vermilion" from Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses) . The pummeling power of "Live For This" from Hatebreed`s The Rise Of Brutality album demonstrates how energetic the metal genre can be, while the range of the category is evident by Killswitch Engage`s fiercely dynamic title track "The End Of Heartache." The mysterious substance "Nymphetamine" may not yet have FDA approval, but the amped-up title track to Cradle Of Filth`s latest effort is a strong contender here as well.
