Played on a stand-up electric bass, and sometimes an acoustic stand
up. I play It on an acoustic frettless bass guitar, and it sounds perfect.

I don't know what Les played this on, but I think it's his 4-string
fretted. The first note (10/\) is played like that through the whole song.
It's about a 1/4 (or 1/2 live) vibrato.

The bass intro/verse riff uses a very muted F#, which can be achieved
by either palm muting, but it looks like just not pressing the string all the
way to the fretboard. For The Hammer-On 16-17 part of the solo, playing
live, Les plucks every 16, instead of letting them all ring. The E's
vibration at the end of the bass solo is the work of Les's Whammy Bar, but
can be [almost] duplicated by detuning the E string, then tuning back up.
(Be carefull, you still have to hit the E for the chorus and the verse! be
sure to tune up after if you chose to do that)

Les definately uses a fretless, but I don't know if it's his 6 string
or a new 4 sring.
